Spices for Gingerbread

Description

Gingerbread is a culinary delight appreciated in Romania, being an important part of winter traditions. The tradition of preparing and consuming gingerbread is closely linked to the cold season, holidays, and family gatherings. From Christmas evenings spent by the tree to winter markets throughout the country, gingerbread is always present and cherished by sweet lovers.

Recipe

  • 650 g flour
  • 10 g baking powder
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 5–6 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 400 g honey
  • 200 g melted butter
  • 20 g spice mix

Mix the melted butter with honey and sugar, then add the egg yolk, flour, baking powder, and the gingerbread spice mix. Continue mixing until you get a smooth dough. Wrap the dough in cling film and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Then remove it and let it sit at room temperature until it becomes easy to shape. Roll out the dough to about 5 mm thick, cut it using cookie cutters, and place the shapes on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 8–10 minutes.
